The Institut de Recerca Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Veterinarian Co-Supervisor to join its cutting-edge biomedical research team. This role will be based at CMCiB (Center for Comparative Medicine and Bioimage), a state-of-the-art research facility specializing in preclinical models, surgery, and advanced imaging technologies in large and small animals.
The selected candidate will supervise and coordinate daily activities in the surgical and diagnostic imaging area, ensuring high standards of research and animal welfare. The role also involves training and supporting researchers in biomedical research projects using alternative methods, anatomical specimens, and advanced animal models.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of the surgical and imaging area, ensuring smooth execution of scheduled activities and optimal team coordination.
- Train and mentor multidisciplinary teams, ensuring technical proficiency in veterinary procedures.
- Participate in preclinical research projects involving large animal models (rabbits, pigs, and sheep) in fields such as interventional surgery, endoscopy, laparoscopy, cardiology, neurology, and medical technology innovations.
- Provide anesthesia, surgical assistance, and post-operative care for research animals.
- Ensure compliance with animal welfare standards, biosafety regulations, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Coordinate and deliver training programs for external professionals on medical technology innovations.
- Maintain laboratory and surgical facilities, ensuring proper care of equipment and animals.
- Document and supervise records in accordance with regulatory and quality standards (GLP, GMP, AAALAC, ISO).
Required Qualifications & Skills
✅ Education: Degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM, MVDr, or equivalent) and eligibility to register with the Official College of Veterinarians of Barcelona (COVB).
✅ Experience: At least 5 years of experience in veterinary clinical practice or biomedical research involving large animal models.
✅ Leadership: Minimum 2 years of experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
✅ Technical Expertise:
- Experience in surgical procedures and anesthesia in large and small animals.
- Familiarity with fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, laparoscopy, and endoscopy.
- Knowledge of preclinical research methodologies and regulatory compliance (GLP, AAALAC, FELASA).
✅ Language Skills: Professional English proficiency (spoken and written).
Preferred Qualifications
⭐ Postgraduate training (Master’s or specialized courses in laboratory animal science, surgery, or anesthesiology).
⭐ FELASA Category C/D or equivalent certification in animal experimentation.
⭐ Experience with biosafety level 3 (BSL3) environments and rodent models.
⭐ Expertise in quality management standards (GLP, GMP, ISO).
